Masad v. Fine
Summary
What this Case is About
ADC filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida on behalf of Amjad Masad after Rep. Randy Fine blocked him from the congressman’s official X account, @RepFine, for replying critically to Fine’s anti-Muslim posts. The lawsuit argues that an official account used for legislative and constituent business is a public forum, and that blocking a constituent because of his viewpoint violates the First Amendment. After being sued, Fine unblocked Masad and adopted a social media policy he can reverse at will, a move the court said in June was “a clear indication that Defendant was trying to rid himself of this litigation.” On August 18, 2026, the court dismissed the case without prejudice as moot, finding that Fine’s unblocking and new policy ended the dispute, and noted, as Fine himself had argued, that if he reverses course “the courthouse door is open” for Masad to bring the claim again.
