SNL MOCKS CRITICS OF ISRAEL
On October 31, 2026, Saturday Night Live aired a sketch introducing a fictional Delta Airlines service called “Delta Disruptive,” a designated section of the plane for unruly passengers. The commercial features passengers screaming, fighting and engaging in bizarre behavior. At one point, the narrator describes a passenger as a “paranoid lunatic” before actor Mikey Day shouts: “THIS PLANE IS MADE OUT OF ISRAEL!” The audience erupts in laughter.

The sketch invites the audience to laugh at the suggestion that Israel has extraordinary influence over American life. By placing the declaration in the mouth of a passenger already characterized as an insane paranoid lunatic, SNL frames the belief as absurd and the person expressing it as mentally unstable. The joke encourages viewers to associate suspicions about Israel’s political influence with irrational conspiracy thinking.
The sketch aired three years into Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Israel’s relationship with Washington, its influence over American foreign policy and the billions of dollars in US military support it receives are all subjects of legitimate public debate. SNL’s sketch instead turns the suggestion of Israeli political influence into a punchline about mental instability.
Rather than direct its satire at the Israeli government or the political forces supporting its war, SNL directs it at those who question Israel’s influence.
