NEW YORK TIMES: CENSORSHIP BY SELECTIVITY

On Tuesday, October 20th 2026, the homepage of the New York Times, the most viewed news homepage in the United States had over 160 items including written news reports, opinion pieces, video reports, and interviews.

Not a single one of these 160 items was on the topic of Gaza, the occupied West Bank or Lebanon.

The New York Times helps shape what millions of Americans understand about the world, what they consider important and which crises remain visible in public debate. When its homepage devotes space to more than 160 items while entirely omitting the genocide in Gaza, the continued occupation and settler violence in the West Bank and continued occupation and destruction of southern Lebanon, readers are left without coverage of events affecting millions of people in a region central to U.S. foreign policy and military spending.

The systematic omission of events in Gaza, the occupied West Bank and Lebanon function as a form of censorship through omission, obscuring from American readers the actions of a U.S.-backed ally whose military operations are substantially funded by American taxpayers.
